As the Chinese New Year holiday approaches, the holiday arrangements and production plans of enamelled wire companies have been largely finalized. SMM conducted a survey of multiple enamelled wire manufacturers, and the results are summarized as follows:

According to SMM, most enamelled wire companies this year plan a holiday duration of 10-12 days, with the majority starting their shutdown on January 24. From the companies' statements, it is understood that this year's holiday duration is mostly consistent with last year. However, some companies will not take a holiday during the Chinese New Year due to downstream customers continuing operations and the need to fulfill pending orders.

In terms of raw material and finished product stockpiling, due to rising copper prices and uncertainty about next year's orders, companies reported that downstream customers are not highly motivated to stockpile, focusing mainly on meeting basic needs. Enamelled wire companies determine their stockpiling strategies based on existing and pending orders.

Overall, the holiday arrangements in the enamelled wire industry this year show little change compared to previous years. Companies are mostly adjusting production plans based on logistics and downstream holiday schedules. Additionally, orders for enamelled wires related to new energy and home appliances have exceeded expectations, prompting some companies to ramp up production before the holiday. Meanwhile, some companies have adjusted their Chinese New Year holiday duration due to overseas customer demand. Furthermore, SMM learned that uncertainties caused by tariffs have led companies to feel apprehensive about next year's market conditions, with many adopting a wait-and-see approach regarding post-holiday orders.

HBIS Resources: Severe Flooding Hits South African Copper Mines; Phase I Resumes, Phase II Dewatering Ongoing
HBIS Resources (000923) announced on March 17 that the Limpopo Province of South Africa, where its subsidiary Palabora Copper (Pty) Ltd. is located, and the neighboring Mpumalanga Province had been hit by the most severe flooding disaster since 2000. As runoff from the open pit and surrounding catchment areas surged into the company’s mine workings, some tunnels in Phase I and Phase II of the copper project were flooded, causing some critical facilities to be submerged (with no casualties). As the operating area of Copper Phase II is located at a deeper level, dewatering has progressed relatively slowly, and dewatering operations are still underway, with completion expected in early April.

Kevin Hassett, Director of the White House National Economic Council in the US, said that oil tankers had "already begun to pass sporadically" through the Strait of Hormuz, and that if necessary, the scale of a globally coordinated release of strategic petroleum reserves could be expanded. Speaking on CNBC, he said the White House had formulated response plans for every stage of supply chain disruptions, and said he was "very confident that the current situation is under control and will end soon."
